How to Apply to German Universities
Choose your program
Use the DAAD database (daad.de) to search for programs in English or German. Over 1,700 programs are available in English alone.
Get your APS certificate
Apply for your APS certificate through the German Embassy or Consulate in your country. This is mandatory for Afghan students.
Learn German or prepare English test
For German programs: aim for TestDaF level 4 or DSH 2. For English programs: IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 90+.
Apply through uni-assist
Most German universities use uni-assist.de as their application portal. You can apply to multiple universities through one platform.
Apply for a student visa
Once accepted, apply for a German student visa at the German Embassy. You will need your acceptance letter, APS certificate, proof of finances, and health insurance.
